Who we are
InterAktiv e.V. is a migrant-led organization dedicated to building an
inclusive society. We empower, accompany, and support refugees and
migrants with disabilities to live self-determined lives.
Our mission is to break down social barriers and promote an inclusive,
diverse society where ALL people can fully participate.
With our services, we try to create places where people can meet, connect and exchange ideas – and thus also facilitate mutual understanding and support and overcome social isolation.
Our organization’s core mission is to holistically address our clients’ circumstances across all aspects of social participation. We support individuals facing difficult life situations—particularly those confronting complex social barriers and intersectional discrimination —to access resources and pursue self-determination.
InterAktiv brings together association members, project staff, volunteers, and honorary workers. Our team includes people with and without disabilities, with diverse migration experiences and racial backgrounds, representing varied perspectives, expertise, and social positions.
Where InterAktiv e.V. is coming from
Our association “InterAktiv – association to promote equality and equal rights for people with disabilities” was founded on the initiative of Sevgi Bozdağ in 2011.
Previously, Sevgi Bozdağ had been working for years on a voluntary basis to ensure that children and young people with disabilities as well as their families, could participate in society on an equal footing. The massive lack of medical care, the high barriers to accessing the social and assistance system and the social exclusion of refugees and people with experiences of migration and disabilities led Sevgi Bozdağ to found InterAktiv e.V.
With the founding of the association and the services and projects initiated since 2011, children, young people and adults with disabilities and a history of migration – as well as their relatives – have been continuously and trustingly accompanied, supported, networked and brought into contact with each other.
Our values
InterAktiv
…understood as “reciprocal” or “interrelated”, describes our attempt to enable solidarity and cooperation between people with and without disabilities and with different biographical backgrounds. We see mutual acceptance, understanding, respect and solidarity as crucial and indispensable for a lively civil society in Berlin and worldwide.
Anti-discriminatory
Disabilities arise due to environmental barriers. Racism and discriminatory structures towards BIPoC and people without German citizenship create additional barriers. We oppose all mechanisms of discrimination and exclusion and try to help overcome them on both a small and large scale. Reflecting on and dealing with our own concerns and social positioning are central to our work.
Emancipation and empowerment
We see the potential, abilities and uniqueness in every person. We are committed to ensuring that every single person has the right to determine their own life. We stand by the people who seek our advice and support them on their way to asserting their rights.
Equality and inclusion
We champion equal participation in all aspects of society for all people.
Our vision is an inclusive society where no one faces exclusion – particularly refugees, migrants, and BiPoC with disabilities – making full participation a reality. Grounded in principles of self-determination, co-determination, and equal opportunity, our work actively contributes to building a strong civil and migrant-inclusive society.
